Not unlike many women of my age, I was a big Don Johnson fan in the 80′s, thus I tried to see all of his work. It was great fun for me that you reviewed and liked this movie. It has probably been 30 years since I saw it. I truly enjoyed it then and would like seeing again. Thanks.

Nah, you’re not a prude…you just didn’t see much point in the scene and let’s be honest here; there was no point to the scene other than to show a hot chick in her underwear. What can I say…I’m easy to please. Glad you enjoyed that review. By all means, feel free to check out the others.

Even though I find your appreciation for the female form charming, I must say I didn’t care for the gratuitous underwear scene. Sorry, I guess I am just a prude.
I really enjoyed your review, especially your thoughts on Karl Urban.

When I was watching the movie, I thought the uniforms appeared more like uniforms from Starship Troopers than Starfleet Academy. I took that as a message from the designer (Michael Kaplan) as “Hey Richard! don’t expect this film to be the next Gattaca, this is just an action movie in space.”

The Rocketeer rocked, and this movie did as well. Couldn’t believe you didn’t bring up the bit about the red-suited guy in the glass cylinder…;-)

I also loved The Rocketeer, and really love the feel of those pre-WW2 movies. Captain America felt like the comic book, from the secret lab underneath the store in Manhattan to Captain America’s attitude of just being a boy from Brooklyn. I really liked Iron Man and Thor better, but only because of the powers of the heroes. Cap makes the most of what he has, as is also shown in The Avengers. No feeling less than around heroes who can bench press city buses. Cap is a leader, and takes to the leadership role like a hand fitted to a glove. Can’t wait for the next movie in this series, like I can’t wait for any of the Marvel movies. Both the next Captain America solo movie and the next Avengers.

I saw this one on Cinemax when I was 14 or 15. I was the kid who introduced it to my high school. I was the first fifteen year old with a trenchcoat. Hell, I may have started the whole trenchcoat mafia thing for all I know. All because of The Killer and later Hard Boiled and A Better Tomorrow. Great post, man. I can only imagine what seeing this in a packed theater was like. Like seeing Enter The Dragon for the first time in America, maybe.

No doubt, from that first time Chow stomps the table and flips the gun into his hand, I was a Woo fanatic.

I know. It always gets a big laugh out of me when the excuse for an alien invasion is that they need our resources. Any race that can build a fleet of mile long spaceships doesn’t need any of OUR resources, that’s for sure.
